Default What is this? (on '88 740 GLE 230 engine)

I'd like to know what this is. Looks like an industrial air line fitting!
I'm guessing it's a vent of some sort OR a return line.
It's in the 10 O'clock position looking at the "230" stamp on the passenger side of the block, under the bend of the oil dip stick tube, right above the oil pan.
Anyone 100% on what it is? Please let me know.

Looking up.

That is to drain the coolant from the block.
