The actual transistor on the blower resistor (an MJ802 or NTE181 last time I checked on my S40) is around $3 at online electronics vendors like Mouser.com If you're handy with a soldering iron, you could save yourself $130 by just replacing the transistor yourself.
Although I didn't wait when my Cabin Fan Resistor went out - and picked one up from the dealership - I have bought a couple of MJ802s and will DIY the repair next time.
Datapoint: I have a 98 V70 and 01 S40. Component part numbers may be different on your vehicle.

So how do I find out the part number for the transistor of the blower resistor?Also, I read on some website and it said that I should disconnect the battery first and have my radio code ready. Where do I get my radio code and what for? Sorry for all the questions, I'm a newbie at this.

Just ran across this post about a/c repair. I have a problem with mine. My ac blows cold air but my fan does not stay running. I have electronic climate control. I usually leave it on 72 or so on automatic. The fan will normally ramp up cool the cabin off and then cycle on and off as needed to maintain temp. But now the fan might ramp up but then slow down and even shut off. I need to help on how to determine if it is the resistor or the blower motor. Any help would be very much greatly accepted. This just started in the last few days and living here in Phoenix, AZ it is running over 100 daily so it is needed.

ps. I also have an evaporative leak, when shutting off the car I will get a whining out of the front area passenger side. It seems to be comming from the accumulator but I do not think that is possible, any help?
