Hello all. I have a 1991 960 GLE with a B234F engine. It has DOHC with the manual tensioner for the timing belt. I just replaced the timing belt and balance shaft belt and I was pretty sure I had everything lined up correctly, but when I tried to start it, it didnt want to run and it was shaking violently which apparently means I didnt get the timing right. The engine did turn over, but I had to give it gas to keep in running, and it didnt sound right and just shook and died when I let go of the gas. I didnt want to push it.
I need to know how to find TDC. we put the 2 camshafts lined up to the marks on the back cover, and lined up the 2 marks on the belt with those 2 marks, and set the crank pulley in line with the mark on the bottom and that seemed like it should be right, but it wont run now.
Im an amatuer mechanic at best. Apparently I got something wrong. Does it have anything to do with the distributor and aligning the rotor? Im pretty sure the problem is that we didnt start at TDC, but it doesnt make sense because we ligned up the crank pulley with the mark on the bottom.
Can anyone help?
