Hi, I have a 1989 780 Bertone Turbo, that has a very strong gas smell in the cabin whenever a window is opened (even slightly). The smell gets stronger if I gun the engine or am driving aggressively.

Is this a common problem? Does anyone have any ideas?

The car doesnt seem to be leeking gas from anywhere, and I am getting good milage.

Could this smell just be exhaust from the wastegate? It smells rather un-burnt.

 

well i can tell you for sure its not wastgate exhaust. its possible you have a very small leak that you cant see or detect. a very small amout of fuel can really stink. i would check the entire fuel system...from tank to injectors, and all in between. when the windows are open it causes more vapors from outside to run thru the car...thus why you smell it wen open. i have the same problem in my gt but thats cuz of the injectors pushing out of the head under boost, its possible your injector seals are bad...but you have a much differnt engine set up than me...but good idea to check anyway.
