Valve cover gasket
Hello,
I've a 1997 850 T5 wagon. Today at an oil change I was told that oil was leaking around by valve cover. The time estimate on the repair was quoted at over 6 hours. I did a search but no one listed this problem. Can this be right? Does anyone have any info on such a job? There may be oil leaking around my turbo too. I'm not going through much oil. A quart or so since my last change. I wouldn't mind except for the burning oil smell when I stop. Thanks

RE: Valve cover gasket
A leaking Valve cover on these cars is very rare. The 2 surfaces are machined to fit. They use a chemical gasket which very rarely goes bad. My guess would be to look at the oil cap seal and make sure the Vent box isn't clogged.
If I were you I would clean the area myself with brake clean and then inspect it again.
Yes if it has to be done it takes a long time to do it.
