Lightbulb Volvo 850 Thermostat and ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor) Replacement - Video

This video will show you how to replace the thermostat and ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) in a Volvo 850 and some of the S70 & V70's. If your engine temperature is not reaching normal temperature within a few miles of driving you should replace your thermostat.

Some people experience hard and no starts, rough early idle, running rich or lean, etc. when the ECT is bad. It will sometimes cause a check engine light with a P0116 code (or P0123). Sometimes the ECT can cause the motor fan to run for an extended period of time after you shut down the car, which can and will drain your battery.
