Default How to change thermostat and ECT on S60

Hi - need some advice on how to change the TSTAT and ECT (based on getting a P0128 error code). Is there a way to do this repair without draining all the coolant out? Is there a short cut that will do the trick without spilling everywhere?

Thanks

Which setup do you have?
If it is turbo looks like it is this setup. http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/88
If you have that one I believe you need to remove the power steering pump to swap it out.

If you have a Non turbo it should be the other setup with the 2 torxes screws which is alot easier. You will loose coolant when you remove it. Put a pan under the car.

THanks -I have the non-turbo -- so is it necessary to drain the coolant from underneath the car - or do I just access the housing and make the change (knowing some coolant will come out).

I just put a pan under the car and remove the thermostat top housing and change the parts as fast as I can. This way all the coolant does not drain out.

depending on what yrs of your p2 is. there thermostat housing could be different. but if you have a non-turbo, chances are you have a early model w/the 2 torx screws on top. if you are doing it yourself, i advise you to take the top left plastic cover off before you take out the torx so you won't damage it. i did many of those thermostat and i never drain the coolant, you will have a little coolant leak out but u just top it up afterward. but do it when the car is cold and with coolant reservoir cap on so u won't loose too much coolant

Ok - cleared the code - but since I changed the tstat a day and a half ago - I am getting a coolant leak. After driving the vehichle a small amount of coolant is leaking - could this just be residual left from when I changed the thermostat? It was not leaking before the change.

Did you install the o-ring around the thermostat, not just put it under or over the t-stat?
