2010 S40 Manual - noise
Hi - New here thought maye I could get some ideas. S40 2.5i manual 70K miles. It just started making a noise that sounds like a bearing starting to fail.
Not constant but on and off. I put it up on the jack stands and put it in gear and it sounds like its coming from the CV joint where it connects with the transmission.
Not having an extra car, I brought it to a local shop who said he thinks its the tranny.
Anybody have any similar issues? Manual trans with 70K miles ?? not good.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

They charged me $90 just to drive it/ put it on the lift and listen to it. I don't have an extra car or I would pull the half axel myself. I use the the car for work and can't afford to have anything go wrong. I'm trying a trans guy that is supposed to be really good on Monday. No diagnostic fee- we'll see what he says.
Thanks

Well - turned out to be a problem with the reverse gear dropping filings into a bearing.
Bad luck I guess - no parts for these transmissions 5K for a rebuilt from Volvo.
Could have gone with a used one and saved about 2K on the job, but I felt a little better with the rebuilt and 1 year warranty. - sucks though - manual transmissions are not supposed to break. Searched all the forums - nobody else had an isssue
