Default Blown Fuse

My check engine light came on last week-end. I do not know why, I only know that it did. I had loaned my OBD unit to someone else, I took it to Autozone for a reading.

When they plugged in their OBD unit, we got a no link on the screen. They said it was because of a blown fuse in my s40. If so where is this fuse and what model, size, etc fuse. do I need to replace it?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Respectfully,

Well, the wiring diagram (available for free on internet) refers to the OBD2 socket as the "Data Link Connector" and also refers to it as "17/13". The Owner's Manual (available for free in PDF form) says the controlling fuses are F18 (supply to interior fuse bank) and F57.

He has an 02. The fuse for the DLC is also for the brake lights. If the brake lights work, it isn't the fuse.

Default check fuse 13 in the passenger compartment fuse box

On my 2000 S40, the owners manual shows fuse number 13 (15 amp) in the interior fuse box (right next to your hood release) belonging to OBD II connector and the brake lights - so as noted, if you have brake lights, fuse is ok.

You can find a diagram for the fuseboxes at http:// new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2002/2002_SV40/02sv40_06b.htm#pg95

(google "volvo s40 owners manual 2002" and its the first search hit)

On my 2001 you have to keep a slight but constant pressure on the cord connected to the OBD-II plug. If you just stick the reader plug into the OBD-II port it will not connect properly. Don't know why it acts this way but it always has. I'm the 2nd owner.

Default Brake light check

Okay my brake lights do work. So what else should I check? I guess that the people at Autozone should hold the OBD II connector in the socket. Just plugging it in does not work.

Again, the brake lights do work.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You could verify that there is in fact no voltage to the OBD plug. Image is at:

http://www.mbcluster.com/Media_Diagn...r%20Pinout.jpg

Pin 4 is chassis ground, 5 is signal ground, battery voltage is #16.

the rear fog light on my 06 s40 stopped working a while ago.
i brought it to Drogheda(IE) volvo garage where they checked the fuses and relays and couldn't find what's wrong with it.
they said they'll need to look up the diagrams as it might be the wiring and they'll let me know when to go back.. it's been nearly a month since and never heard from them again..
the car is now due for the test and the rear fog light is still not working.
the rear fog light led(red), on the small dash, next to the steering wheel is always on(dim not strong light). when i press it turns on and back off the next second - the rear fog light doesn't light up.
the bulb is fine as i've tried it on the tail lights.
connections are all clean and tight.
i've looked up all diagrams on the internet an there's no fuse or rellay for rear fog lights coming up for 2006 s40 1.6D.
i would really appreciate any help.
