Hello Volvo lovers!

I have a 2001 Volvo s80. I bought it just over a year ago, it's a little beat up (on thew inside mostly), but it's a beautiful car and I love it.

So when I got the car it had a few issues, these were; remote on the key wouldn't open the trunk or any of the doors except on the drivers side, and the gas gauge didn't work it was always on empty.

I took the car to a local mechanic and mentioned the problems. He agreed to look into it as he did the oil change. When he finished he told me my car was at one point a police car and that the problems were probably electrical, a fuse or something.

When I started up the car I realized that the gas meter was no longer broken the other problems were fixed too! To this day I don't know if that mechanic was just a silent do-gooder or if he inadvertently fixed the car. Either way, this was awesome! All of that stuff got fixed for free!

The issues stayed fixed until last week, after a year of being fixed the EXACT same problems returned....

Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? or maybe who to fix it?
It's a weird story, I know... but that is how it happened.

I would GREATLY appreciate any advice! I really want to understand this.

Thanks guys!
-David

Even if you have no trouble codes showing, clear them anyway with a scan tool and see what happens. Worth a try.

Maybe he disconnected the battery for some reason? That's my best guess. You could try and do the same thing. Just disconnect the battery, wait 30 minutes or so, turn the ignition key to the run position, then reconnect the battery.

The doors locks are part of a few modules. The Driver door module (driver window switch assembly), the rear electric module (in the trunk), and the Upper Electric Module (which is inside the rearview mirror). My best guess is it has something to do with the rear electric module as it also runs the fuel relays through it.
