A/C & Ambient Temp Sensor

A/C & Ambient Temp Sensor
I have a 2001 V70 2.4T. I believe that the ambient air temperature sensor must be faulty because the outside temp display reads incorrectly. On a really hot day (100 F) I get 26 F readings with the snowflake. The problem is that the A/C will not blow cold air when the car thinks that the outside airtemp is cold or freezing. This problem has been intermittant and has been happening for 3 yrs but now is getting worse. Before, the A/c would stop blowing cold air when the outside temp gage showed 36 F and below, but now it does it when it shows 26F and below (I live in Southern california and it don't get that cold here!) Does anyone know where the ambient air temp sensor is located in my car? I've heard from a local mechanic that it either is in the driver side mirror housing or somewhere up front behind the bumper? I tried to look for Haynes and Chilton's manuals vor a 2001 V70 but I guess they don't make them...
Have any of you replaced a temp sensor and is it fairly easy to accomplish?
Also, do you think that it is the a faulty ambient air temp sensor that is causing this problem - could it be something else that I'm not aware of?
Thanks for any help,
pb
