ETS Light/Safe or Limp Mode
I bought a 1999 V70 XC with the ETS light on 3 years ago with 120,000 miles. The car now has 185,000 and I have not changed the throttle body. About once a month it goes into limp mode, I then shut if off, start it up and it is fine for a month or so until it happens again. We easily put 300 miles a week on the car.
So my questions are as follows:
1) what is the worst thing that could happen with the ETS light on other than the occasional limp mode?
2) Am I pushing my luck by not changing it or should I just wait for the worst to happen?
3) Is the fix an easy one? How much should I expect to spend?

I am having the similar problem with a 01 S80. Fuse 7, Throttle Module fuse blows. It did in the exact same location two nights in a row. Change fuse and everything is fine. Yesterday it blew two fuses one in morning and one evening different locations. Today I made same round-trip and no fuse blowed. When fuse blows care will start on about third or forth try with RPM slowly increasing up to about 2700 max. Vehicle in safe mode until fuse is replaced. Checked for codes at Advance...no codes or Service engine light. I know there was a recall on Throttle Module. I am just outside the 10 year. Vehicle has 138,000 miles and no other issues in history. Has me perplexed. Am going to remove the Throttle Module and clean it and see if that works. I am told this will only mask the full replacement. Above mentioned company seems to be best place for replace module. $500 vs 1100 at Volvo. Great car till this now I am very nervous. Volvo dealers in US seem to all be thieves. Why can't they give decent service without the rip off ? I really am tired of repair shops ripping customers off for parts and service they do not need. $$%$&(_)+*_+&#$
