Exclamation 1999 v70 motor swap... Will any 1998-2000 vin 56 work?

I think i might have a bad motor and am currently prepping myself to find a good motor for cheap from a local salvage yard.

When i call LKQ they say that any vin 56 (in the 6th and 7th position) needs to be out of a 1999 exclusively in order for it to work in my 1999 v70 awd turbo.

So the obvious question is will any year vehicle (between 1998-2000) whether it is an s70, 850, v70 or c70... etc with a vin of 56 for the engine be compatible with my car in need of a new heart?

Would the transmission be compatible?

Would a non turbo vin 55 work with my turbo vin 56? If so, why and how?

In need of some serious professional advice!!

Thanks in advance all my gear head friends

non turbos may mate up but have different internal set ups - the pistons are higher compression which will increase with boost (may cause knocking if you don't run 93+), not sure if the NAs have oil jets cooling the pistons either. There may also be some small differences on various ports...

Here's a very technical discussion on the variants of the engine by model/year:

Note your '99's 56 code maps to the B5254T ("light pressure turbo") found on the GLTs.

Curious question - why do you think you need a new engine?

The 98's don't have variable valve timing. I am not sure if the 2000's are any different on that from a 99.
