I finally got my 98 R fixed from someone hitting my driver's door open, bending it to the headlight.
I noticed a bad smell in the cabin, especially with the windows up. I haven't driven the car in 2 years.
I got to looking and noticed something I"m not sure was like this before. Maybe I knocked the exhaust from underneath and broke this pipe off the turbo, driving down by the river the other night?
maybe a rat with a hacksaw got in my dads garage and cut it off...? but what does this do? You can see where the pipe leads to nowhere as it turns up, the one coming off the exhaust. Is this important? It's seems to run fine, and I keep capping it, but the metal keeps deforming and it blows off. A guy at Orelieys said it's a pipe to an egr valve but he is also a teenager and drives a chevy. I can't afford a "diagnostic" fee at any of the euro shops around here.
Also there's a melted little purple wire that I swear used to go to something in the pic.
I can't seem to find a diagram that explains this much, especially on the R. Thanks guys! Glad to be back in the saddle of my R!
There is an air injection system that is supposed to connect there. The air comes off an electric blower mounted under the battery.
I looked a while for a picture that showed this and came up with this one. the little silver can is I think an exhaust check valve. I have found that after 20 years these old
electric blowers do not work, but this does not set a check engine light at least in my experience.
