Unhappy ABS light woes.

I have a 1998 S reg V70 2.5 and I cannot get the ABS and brake system warning light to go out. This is proving to be a major problem as the car is now out of MOT and will not pass one with those lights on.

I have read the codes and recieved the following codes.

O/S Front wheel speed sensor no signal
and
0080 - Control Module Faulty Signal.

After replacing the cracked reluctor ring the first code cleared and has not returned. I have even had the ABS control box thats mounts under the ABS pump professionally rebuilt and still cannot get that code to clear. It returns immediately every time it is cleared and the lights do not go out.

Live data from the diagnostics shows that all wheel speed sensors, and acceleration sensors are giving appropriate data, however the lights remain on and the ABS is definitely inoperative

I know its a bit of an ask but is their anyone near me who could come and have a look or lend me a known good ABS module (my car does not have tracs) as I am now at my wits end. I am based just outside of Lampeter West Wales.

Thanks

Paul

how do you know if the ABS pump itself is not the problem?

It's worth checking but once again I need a known good unit to put on the car as the ABS pump is £££s. Also the diagnostics code 0080 that it is throwing relates to the control module.

pauldaf44- I've had my 1998 V70 for 3 years with the ABS light on. Same as you, checked the codes : 0080 - Control Module Faulty Signal. After much of the same exercise as you...my mechanic called in a favor to the Sweden factory to get the skinny on ABS warning light ". Answer from Sweden: it was either a software bug or inappropriately-sized diode w/in the module giving a false positive but nothing mechanical inoperative. In the US, we don't have strict UK MOT regulations especially in Chicago (murder capital) so it wasn't flagged as issue. Unfortunately, my mechanic retired to Florida over 16 months ago with no way of getting in touch with him. Like I said, I've been driving with it for over 3 years.

I don't know how much access you have to wrecking yards there in west wales, but in the US it would be a very easy to find part. In fact, if an 850 is the same I could mail you one.

They seem to be a little thin on the ground here, although there are plenty of people advertising rebuilding services. My biggest problem is because the car is out of test it can't be driven and none of the local breaker yards have the part in stock.

try car-parts.com to search US recycle yards. they may be willing to ship you a used ABS Pump and controller. I got one (pump+controller) for my S40 for $60...

I have sourced a replacement pump and module now and have just discovered something I am kicking myself about. I'd checked the fuse in the scuttle panel fuse box but I hadn't checked the fuse in the other box and low and behold the 50amp fuse labled ABS is missing. I really do hope that's my fault.

Success, my dashboard is now warning light free. Rebuilt control unit and 3 new fuses required but she now works.
