Adding new key to 1997 V70 via OBDII - what hardware and software?
Locksmiths around here haven't been able to dupicate the 1997 V70 key due to its.type of transponder, which their equipment identified as ID44.
I have the ignition key pin and the immobilizer pin for the vehicle.
There are many types of hardware links that can be used to link a computer to the car via the OBDII plug, including some that you can buy for just $10.
What hardware and software is used to make the car recognise a new ID44 key? Can that cheap hardware be used, or is something more fancy required?
Or is it possible to tell the immobiliser to turn off such that just the mechanical key can be copied?
Regards,

Hi Dave, please verify the year of the car in question. I don't believe the'97 or '98's for that matter were chipped, at least not in the USA cars. I usually contact a dealer, usually one 2 or 3 states away, prove my ownership, then they send me a pre-cut key that works right out of the package.

The year is 1997 (correct), and I'm from Australia, which is likely the explanation.
The key is definitely chipped. In fact I have a non-chipped key which opens the doors and turns the ignition and starts the starter motor, but it won't successfully start the car.
Do you know if Volvo VIDA software has the capacity to configure the car keys, if you have the ignition key pin and immobiliser pin?
