Default Outside Temperature Sensor

I've just been perusing the Haynes workshop manual and discovered that the outside temperature sensor instructions for removal are in chapter 4A.8, Fuel and Exhaust systems-petrol models.
I was wondering if any one could tell me if this means it is an integral part of the fuel system?
I have scanned the internet but can't find any answer.
I have a problem with my car sometimes holding back, (as if fuel blockage). I have ran it with a full tank and added injector cleaner, fitted a new fuel filter, fitted new plugs and sprayed throttle body cleaner into the throttle body, and though it has helped slightly, the problem is still there.
My outside temperature sensor has a mind of it's own, when it was 22 degrees outside, the sensor was telling me it was minus 2!
I would not have thought it would be part of the system, but, if not, why have it in this particular chapter?
Has any Volvo tech head an answer?
Many thanks in advance.

Yes on most modern injection systems. What year, and engine is your car?

your car is likely to have multiple temp sensors - the most important is the engine coolant temp sensor (the ECT found under the thermostat housing) but there's also an intake air temp sensor (to do things like control the preheat damper). Not sure what the importance to the FI is the ambient air temp would be when there are other sensors like the IAT... I'd suggest a quick google on symptoms for a bad intake air sensor. Issues from a bad ECT are fairly well documented and easy to diagnose.

The air temp sensor for the instrument cluster thermometer is mounted below the front bumper in the center air intake. I've seen cars with 2, I think yours just has one on the left side. I know cars with Bosch air mass meters have an intake air temp sensor built into the AMM, I'm not sure about a denso AMM.

And 22 Fahrenheit is close to -2 Celsius - don't remember if that's an changeable option.
