Default Rear taigate struts

hi guys,
can someone please tell where the struts are on this V70 98 vehicle. Ive seen them advertised on ebay, but I dont see any Struts on the back tailgate. How does the tailgate stay up. Is there any special openning where they are hidden. All I can see is a couple of hinges with cable going through them.

Red face Hidden hatchback lifts

They are behind a panel on right and left side. Check out you tube , there are at least 2 videos on how to change them. It looks like a piece of cake(famous last words). That's my next project.

Default Tailgate struts for '99 v70

Can anyone recommend the brand that's the right size?

Last fall I ordered a pair that were just a quarter inch too long. They had a 3 initial logo/ sticker on the side but it was so long ago I can't remember.

It was a bear getting the original out so I decided to hold off on this job. I'm willing to try again a year later....

The volvo 850 and v70 use the same tailgate strut which is short and stubby.
it took me 10 min each strut. You need to remove rear cover, and the rest is easy. You may have the right ones, all you need to do is press the strut in.

The first set I ordered were from FCPGroton and were about a quarter inch too long. This time I ordered from PartsandAccessories.com and Replacement is the brand name for the struts. They're due some time next so I'll let you know the outcome the weekend after next.

Installing the struts wasn't a problem at all. When the new ones arrived, they were 1/4 inch too long as well (just like the first pair I ordered), but I noticed the bracket on the car frame could be loosened and adjusted. I just simply moved the bracket to fit the new struts and was done in about 15 minutes. The total cost was about $45.

The tail gate struts are not to long, you just have to lift up on the tail gate or compress the strut a little to get them to click on.

I went to my local junk yard and got a set for $3.50 each.
