Default Trouble starting

Hi, new to the forums
I have a 1998 Volvo V70 T5 Wagon
sometimes when I go to start my vehicle it will have trouble starting. all the electrics (starter motor) work fine, it just doesn't start. after several attempts it will usualy get going, but even then it will idle below 1000 RPM and die when I try to accelerate. If I push the gas and get it to sit at 3000 RPM for a minute or 2 in neutral it will work fine. sometimes it does not start at all, unless I let it sit for 24 hours, then it starts fine.
It seems more likely to do this when it is cold, or if it has been sitting for a few days, although it has had problems outside those conditions.
I'm not a mechanic by any means, but several of my mechanic friends have been confused by all this.
Wondering if anyone has experienced this or has any idea what it may be?

a few things come to mind - 1) fuel pressure. things in play include fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel pressure regulator 2) cold start mixture. things in play include MAF sensor, idle air valve, vacuum lines/hoses

You can start by using some MAF cleaner and clean the MAF, idle valve, throttle body. Then you may need to do a fuel pressure test - you need a guage and attach it to the shraeder valve on the end of the fuel rail. Search Youtube for RobertDIY's video. the 98 V70 T5 is pretty much the same as the 850 Turbos.

Also, if you haven't done plugs/wires etc in a while, it may be time to freshen including rotor/cap...
