V70 ABS issues
Hi,
Among the many things that have gone wrong with my '98 V70, the ABS computer seems to be out for the 2nd time. Actually, its been gone for at least 10,000 miles. I wasn't going to replace it again. But now the speedometer has failed, and the odometer has finally failed as well. Erratically though, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
Any fix you know of, besides replacing the damn computer?

Check the front wheel sensors, if they have good connection, I had both issues with my ABS unit (light on)and speedo going dead, 98 V70R, turns out I had broken wires at the front wheel sensors fixed that and speedo was good to go, I got replaced plugs with enough harness to go up into the engine bay from Tasca parts, I did the repair on the unit itself in hopes it would fix my issue, didn't check or clear the ABS as yet and I haven't driven it any distance to see if it does a self check and clears the ABS/tracs light but I was able to verify speedo works, I have a pretty long driveway,, hopefully this helps you out a bit..
Seeing that you drive a V70R, no doubt you like the "juice" that this vehicle has. If you have been driving hard and fast on the rugged streets of Los Angeles, the 2 things that Blessediam suggested is likely to be the cause of your problems. The electrical connections or the sensors is the only things that can fail in the ABS/TRACS system. Cleaning the wheel sensors, if dirty, and checking the connections to them is one solution. The speed sensor is subject to failure but not often and the ABS module itself has an inexpensive repairable internal electrical connection issue that many owners have been suckered out of buying a new module for. Check the wiring harness in these areas for simple electrical connections issues before dropping any big bucks on other parts. Wheel sensors very seldom fail except for blunt force impact. When the electrical connection issue is diagnosed and repaired, the ABS/TRACS unit will self-test and reset itself upon driving, as mine did after repairing my module last year.
