Talking changing O2 sensor

I am needing to change out the O2 sensor on my 99 V70XC that screws into the catalytic converter. My question is regarding the "plug in" portion of that sensor. I do not have access to a rack, but having driven the car up on ramps to unscrew the sensor out of the converter, I am finding it difficult to even see the other end of the wire where it plugs in.

I'm curious if anyone has changed these out, and if so, is it easier to reach the plug in portion from under the hood, under the car, or do I need to remove the wheel and inner fender.

Thanks for your input!!

The connectors are at the very back of the transmission, on the top more or less at the bell housing.
