Default Fuel pump - no stock. Options?

Ive had my 2000 XC70 since day one, and after 275k, my fuel pump finally gave out. Apparently this pump is only made by one supplier, I believe in France. Stock numbers are listed below but there is no US stock anywhere Ive found. Ive even tried foreign parts sites, but US shipping is not happening for this part. Summit shows a Sept stock date for the Carter pump, but when calling Carter, they have no idea if thats real.

This looks like it'll be a cut and paste job with some similar pump, but I have no idea what that might be.

FCP has a Walbro pump listed w parts, and a Deatschwerks universal kit w no description, but their tech line doesnt know how these would be made to work, so I'm not confident that either is a viable solution.

Anyone have any ideas, or better solutions that do work? I dont need step by step instructions, just some verification that some one has made something work w/ xyz parts, and it doesnt **** off the computer = is good enough.
Thanks for any help.

CARQUEST or Airtex Fuel Pumps #:E8357M
Carter #:P76884M

Kem #:EFP8357
Spectra Premium #:SP5041M

Tasca Parts (a dealer store) lists Volvo 30761743 as the fuel pump for AWD models with a price of $307. Google around for suppliers using that PN for some options - plus you can call Tasca and provide them your VIN to verify fitment.

I wish it was.

Unfortunately, thats the 2001 and later P2 XC, not the P80 98-00 XC I have etc. I assume they're insinuating a 2001 model year, built in 2000, but IDK.

Mine was built 5/99, released to us direct from the factory in Aug '99 as one of the very first 2000MY.

interesting. When I looked at the 99 MY, Tasca's diagram shows two pumps - a left (9470840) and a right 9470674. Does that sound like your set up?

At any rate, It looks like Professional Parts Sweden sells the "right" pump #9470674 ($175 on eBay), but googling around I see 9470840 is sometimes labeled as an "ejector" (?) and other times as a sending unit (which kind of makes sense that could have a separate part number). Assuming your pump died but you are still reading fuel level, you would only need #9470674.

Have you started to dive into this and pulled the pump out of the tank yet and checked to make sure its not wiring or the relay?

Yes, Ive been all over that. PRO Sweden parts are junk. Lots of threads on them that are less than admirable, and fuel pumps are exceptionally bad from them. Chinese parts poorly made. For this car, every one says pony up and buy factory. But unless France does indeed come back online with these pumps, Im about 18mos too late for shelf stock. As for the -840 part, thats not a pump but a fuel pickup in the driverside saddle.

No I havent pulled the pump out yet, but its death is totally consistent with the symptoms of a dying and then dead pump. Robert does a good job of describing the symptoms. I had all of them, especially low pressure at the rail which was at best 15psi, dropping to zero in seconds. I nursed my car about 60 miles when it started failing bad and made it within towing distance of home. That was a week ago and its a no start. It wants to, but nah, just not gonna do it. I can still jump the pump at the relay (relay is also good) and I can hear the pump run, but its not got enough pressure to make a difference. It could be a clog at the pump sock (Ive replaced the inline filter already) and hope for a miracle, but the reality is that at 275k mi, I'm way over due for a pump so its better now to go through the garage engineering to find a reliable solution than to send the wife out in the car or not trust the vehicle beyond a 20 mi radius. I cant be the only one in this boat.

well you can dump on Pro Sweden or you can drive your car. Given the limited choices for a short design run part number, you can go PS, get lucking finding another aftermarket vendor that you judge as more reliable or go used (taking the risk of buying somebody elses worn pump).

I appreciate your willingness to engage on this topic. I'm fully aware of my options (or lack there of) wrt getting the 9470674 pump, or I wouldnt bother being here.

The purpose of this thread is to ask for "outside of the thinking box" solutions to the pump since the existing factory stock is non-existent, and the Pro Sweden pump is known unreliable. Replacing the pump in this vintage XC70 is laborious and noone wants to do it, or replace any "new part" with in a few months.

So again, the question is, has anyone successfully cobbled together a solution for the -067 pump, beit using a Walbro or some other intank pump, or maybe using another factory intank pump swapping parts to make it work etc...or for that matter even had the factory pump rebuilt?

I had a talk with Walbro's successor about the 30611161,Walbro GRJ235 fuel pump for the 98 V70XC.

Check out the 5CA3351. Looks like it could be modified to work.

Dont buy off of eBay, it will sound like buzz saw.
