01' V70 T5 Post Timing Belt CE Light Help
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
This is my first post on the forum and your help would be much appreciated.
As mentioned above I had a check engine light, read the code it was for both the cam and crank sensor. I replaced those, then after taking it to Volvo for a diag. they said "timing belt".
I replaced the Timing Belt, Water Pump, Pulley and Tensioner. The Kit was a Continental kit, very nice packaging and it even came with how to install on a Volvo and cam seals not mentioned on the packaging from rock auto.
Well after fretting and reading, and making sure the tensioner, cam & crank marks were all par I started the engine. CE light stayed off for two days. Then while making a turn on the third day the CE light came back on with the same cam & crank position sensor codes.
Later I tightened the tensioner slightly not wanting to put too much stress on the belt. The light stayed off until the next day. I'm at a loss, I'm going to try to figure out how to post pictures and do that of the marks and tensioner with a HOT HOT engine.
Its difficult to tell the (exhaust side? vvt cam side timing marks in photo due to suspension support bar sorry) Also the front of car cam has two marks and the one that is under the timing cover mark has the indent on the cam pulley.
And the crank timing post is in between the two notches on the crank gear. Or as close as I could get it.
Also I reset the CE code and it came back, I did however get the service light off which was quite a relief.
Any Ideas?
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

Do you have the actual codes? Usually better to have the codes and description.
Timing belts and the component timing, close is not good enough.
FCP Euro has technical videos some where on their site and they have one for timing belt replacement.

I had the same issue on my '01 V70 T5 after replacing Camshaft seals a couple weeks ago. The engine idled and accelerated smoothly but seemed to be revving too high on acceleration and was generally sluggish. After about 500 miles it threw a P0014 code. When I reinstalled the timing belt I had misread the timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and had to move it one tooth counterclockwise. For the camshaft sprocket alignment I aligned the intake sprocket and counted 18 ribs on the belt (counted before I removed it) to get the exhaust sprocket alignment since its hard to get a good view of the exhaust cam alignment. The timing marks on the sprockets on mine fell between ribs on the belt so there were 18 ribs between the marks. <BR><BR>This illustration is the best I've seen for showing the crankshaft sprocket alignment for this engine and year. <BR>
<BR>I had to set mine so that the two marked teeth straddled the raised mark on the engine side of the sprocket (shown between the two arrows). The drawing makes it look like the raised mark indicated by the lower arrow should line up, but on mine it was too far to the right.
