Hello, I have a left rear directional signal that doesn't work. Here is what I have done so far:

1. installed a bulb known to be operable = still doesn't work
2. installed bulb socket from other side = still doesn't work
3. I have been trying to install a 56146 Curt Tail Light Converter to trailer. The light worked fine when I went to bed last night. When I work up it didn't function. To make matter even more fun the trailer lights don't work right.

 

Maybe the wire harness in the hinge is damaged. They do that sometimes. Check it with an ohm meter.

 

Could it be more simple. Would the turn signal relay cause the light not to operate at all? Also, if the turn signal relay is bad would the front turn signal on the same side work or is there a different relay for it?

 

FWIW..I had a problem with my left rear turn signal on my 2001 V70. It turned out to be damaged wiring in the lamp assembly.It's very fragile. The connections are pressed steel held to the assembly with melted plastic studs which in my case were broken. This allowed the contacts to not...contact. I removed the rear lamp assembly and glued the steel fittings to the assembly. I think I ended up gluing the lite fitting to the damaged housing. Before you re-assemble it use a meter to verify continuity back to the plug outlet and then plug in the harness and try it before it's all put back in the car...trust me on this.

For a supposedly high end car it's very bush. However, my Benz is very similar.Maybe these Europeans don't do electrical stuff well.
