Cool 2002 v70 xc awd 2.5

HI all !!
2002 V70 XC AWD 2.4 (sorry, heading above quoting wrong size engine...)
I am a pensioner, have a lot of knowledge generally of vehicles and engines and have been doing all my own maintenance all my life. Alas I recently bought this vehicle: extremely good condition (as new) and service records up to 195000 Kilometes (Miles? approx 145000?).
It had no issues and had a good report from volvo who checked it over when bought.
It was one owner etc, and well cared for, performes awesome in all respects.
It now has 223 000Km on (have done 28 000 km since I bought it and had no probs.
Few days ago I did a timing belt change. Started it up, runs like a sewing machine, drove 20 miles - to prove all is OK and came back and parked the car, chuffed with myself indeed.
Next day started the car and woe be me, the CEL stays on. Never came on before. will not go out.First thought was I did something wrong but when testing after belt replacement there was no prob. So, opened and checked the belt, timing settings etc and all spot on. Light still stays on. Undid Neg. pole on battery to get rid of light and see if problem returns. The light was cleared, started the engine, CEL went out after starting and stayed off. Went for a 80 mile drive, no problem. Came home, swithched off the engine, restarted and light goes out. Chuffed again with myself. (Thought, God I'm good !!~)
Next morning, started the car, light stays on again.
Seems like when resetting the light and then after starting and driving, there is no problem. However after the car has stood for a couple of hours, then starting, it will not go out.
Coincidence that it now does this after belt change, or to do with belt change??
Cannot relate to how it has to do with belt change coz as I say it stays off after resetting and then driving only to stay on again after being stood for some time.
Q 1: Read about "Gas Cap" a lot, find it illogical as a cause ( seems on google many advices given to "check your Gas Cap" for sealing.) Ideas?
Q2: Although I am 99.9% sure the timing has been set correctly on belt change: on these vehicles if for instance the exhaust cam is ONE tooth out, will one notice it on the idling, running etc of the engine? Mine is like it was before, beautiful.
Q3: I presume that most causes for the CEL to stay on are related to emision control, air/oxygen meaurement, air flow etc. Am I wrong?
The car is in a prestine condition in all respects and realy goes so well.
As said, am a pensioner and do not have a lot of money at all, so hoping to solve myself via advice...
Kindest regards
Dane

I would take the car to your local parts store and have the codes read. They normally will do it for free (at least in the states). Post the codes here for further help. My guess it is something to do with the crack angle sensor, but I cat say anything until you have the codes.
