Hello,

My v70 D5 is emitting quite a bit of black smoke. The problem has been getting progressively worse over the last 2 months and now is very bad, particularly when going up hills. It's been suggested that I test the injectors, but I've also heard it could be an intercooler. The cars done 158km . There's also been a noticeable deterioration in performance and fuel economy.

Just wondered if anyone has any advice on what's most likely. I'm not keen on spending £200 to test the injectors if this is not likely to be the cause.

Most likely your intercooler, its a commen problem.

Many thanks. Think I'll try this before the injectors. Is there an easy way to check if the i/c is the problem without actually removing it. Cheers!

 

Just also remembered that there's oil deposits on one area ( hand sized) on the condenser, perhaps this suggests a leaking intercooler ?
