1999 v70 xc awd turbo 106K, black smoke, rough idle, 4000rpm limit on revs
I bought the car, replaced two bad valves and now it idle's rough bobbing from 400-900 RPM, has a noticeable amount of black smoke out the pipe and my revs are limited to under 4000. Any help would be great.
Thank you

Hello, Did you get the timing belt on correctly? Are all the vacuum hoses back on? Are the things which effect fuel delivery back on correctly (MAF sensor, fuel pressure regulator)? Were the valve guides damaged (and perhaps you overlooked them)? Did you do a compression test? ...a cylinder leak down test? Other parishes, report in please. Kira

Kira,
Did nothing except put in a can of Sea Foam, 16oz to 6 gallons of fuel, and drove 250 miles. It cleared up the symptoms, I then cleared the codes and now it runs like a champ. It did throw up a p0134 o2 sensor code but I think I will replace that part as that has been the common code since I bought the car in Feb. It's been in the shop till two days ago.
BEWARE....if you let your car sit for longer than 3 months you will start to have fuel issues. The ethanol in the fuel breaks down and turns to a gooey clear mess that clogs everything, injectors, fuel filter, fuel pumps. I think I lucked out with my car, it sat for 9 months but I think it is all blown out now. I am a marine mechanic and we see old/bad gas as a major player in poorly running engines, often. I've flushed complete fuel systems out before and it cost the client $2800. He sat for 2 years.
