Blower Fan not operating

Blower Fan not operating
V70 2004 D5 full clima control version. (separate for each side)
Went on vacation for 10 days, came back and the fan does not operate.
I tried the following.
- Checked the voltage to the fan motor..12 volt. Incoming voltage.
- Removed the fan..spinns easy and works when supplying 12 volt direct.
- Tried another 2 fan motors from a used car part shop..nothing (plugged in on the "side" so to speak)
- tried another control panel.
All lights and buttons / operation in the control panel works to speck.
Heated seats, rear window heater etc. works but whatever I try the fan does not come on.
Any ideas fellow Volvo owners. Thanks

Hi, as far as I know the resistor / fan controller is built in to the fan assembly as it is a fully automatic system. I tried another two complete fan units without success. Incoming wires to the fan assembly "a 4 pin plug"; black / purple (+ and - minus (ground) ) and two smaller yellow and blue to the unit. I guess they are the supplying the control signal.

I did understand that you tried 2 additional fans. I'm not really up to speed on the newer cars and their issues. Give it a day or two here and if you don't get the help you need, try Swedespeed.com. They seem to be very active on the newer models.

OK folks
Changed the resistor and if worked for 1 hr, the fan did not come on as strong as it should do (just a feeling) but sort of worked OK in the morning.
Removed the fan assembly, checked voltage and all looked OK. Removed the fan from the holder and plugged it in "on the side", did the "wiggle test" with the two wires connected to the motor + and - and the fan started intermittently. Likely a bad wire connection to the brushes in the fan housing, thereof the slightly less strong fan speed with the new resistor. I hope this can assist someone else with similar issues. I have to get a new fan assembly.

Ended up with 2 issues, glitch in the cable to the fan from the resistor and a bad connection in one of the connectors in the multi plug to the resistor. Took the plug apart and squeezed the "female " ends to get good connection. Added a little WD-40 and it is working. I guess that's why the 2 fans I tries did not work as well as with the new resistor. So it took some time to get to the bottom of the none working fan.

When control modules gets error code stored it needs cold reset after plugging in new fan.
Or you need to switch off ignition and wait about 3 minutes to make car sleep.
Or you can try to make cold start of CCM by removing it's fuse. When cold reset CCM checks the fan and it starts a bit.

Hi
I tried all that, battery removed etc. Made no difference. Went through the codes with a Bosch code reader. The fan will take a fair amount of current in the morning on full blast on the defroster setting, if the connections are not great you could have an issue. With all "gut and tight" it worked. I have a feeling that in this case with the bad connection it took out the resistor although they seam to fail after 9-10 years anyway. Rarely on thing that will fail, usually a combination. Would possible be good if you checked the connections during a resistor change anyway. Remove the plastic grey "U-end" on the plugs, remove the cables (4) and (2) and try the cables individually how hard they set.
