My service engine light came on and the code read P2131. The problem started when I couldn't get my shifter into gear. But when I moved my foot around the break pedal area, then it went into gear. What can be done to remedy this issue.

It sounds like the brake pedal switch has a loose connection and when you bopped it, it must have contacted again. I bet the code is for that part.
