Crazy to buy a 2001 V70?
Ok, so I come from a background of Mercedes (diesel mostly) and BMW. However I find myself in need of a wagon, and there is a nice looking 2001 V70 near me with 240,000kms on it for a very good price. It seems to have been very well maintained and has had the timing belt recently done.
However according to the owner it still has the original valve body in the transmission. He said that it still shifts fine however "sometimes downshifts strangely into first, almost like a slip". This sounds to me like the stop neutral was never disabled. Is that the lily cause here?
I know these transmissions are problematic, and if need be would be willing to change the linear solenoids myself, however I don't want to be setting myself up for a lifetime of misery owning this car.
So am I stupid to consider it?
