98 V70 making a crazy popping sound when turning.
My 98 V70 AWD 141,000 miles is making a crazy popping metalic sound when I turn left or right going forward or in reverse. It does not make the sound when going straight.
What I have done so far. 6 months ago the CV joint on the right side went bad (grease everywhere). Ordered rebuild kit and repaired. Less than a month later it started making this popping sound when turned in either direction. I figured that my cheep fix with the CV joint rebuild didn't do the trick so I ordered a new half shaft from FCP Groton. I installed the new shaft yesterday then took it for a test drive, and to my supprise the noise is still present. It didn't change a bit.
Has anyone on here ever experienced this? What other areas can I look at?

Did more troubleshooting. Decided to remove the drive shaft to try and narrow down the noise. Now the noise is gone. So now I am still at a loss. Is the noise coming from the rearend or could it still be coming from the transfer case? Someone help me reason through this. I don't think it is any kind of worn bushing because the sound is too metallic sounding. But I may be wrong.
