I recently had a problem with my 2008 V70 I was reversing out of a parking bay and my engine stalled a warning notice came up on the display saying slow down and change gear along with a thermometer sign ,I re-started the engine and drove about half a mile and it did it again re - started again and managed to get home I then booked it in at my local Volvo dealer they did a 2 hour diagnostic check and told me it was the ECU and that it needed replacing at a cost of £1600 has anyone else had a similar problem or have any ideas what could of caused this to happen.

 

kind of rare that an ECU would fail, I'd be more inclined to suspect the connectors or wiring harness to the ECU. Before dropping that amount on an ECU replacement, I'd pop the ECU and TCU out, clean the connectors with electronics cleaner, inspect the wiring harness then get a different dealer to do a repeat on the VIDA scan - hopefully with a senior tech who has some intuition on root cause rather than just reading the VIDA display.
