P2 new heater core installed, plastic smell coming from vents.
Greetings all,
I have a 2002 V70 T5.
~130k
2nd owner (Car lived most of its life in Houston, TX)
The car started blowing a coolant smell last winter into the cabin. So this past month, I replaced the heater core and the two o-rings(Nissens core from FCP and OEM o-rings).
It was a real PITA. I wouldn't want my worst enemy to go through the hell of putting those clips back into the core. Anyhow, I refilled the coolant system and once the system heated up, there is a very strong and pungent plastic-y smell that comes from the vents. It doesn't let up either. It's to the point that I can't use the heat at all anymore and it is very frustrating.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? One thought I had was flushing the system and hoping that gets rid of any plastic remnants from the new core. It's starting to get cold here in UT and I do not want to have to pull it and put in another one. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
