Default Power Steering Fluid disappearing?

Hey all, curious if anybody else is having a similar issue to me? I seem to have to top off my power steering reservoir more often than I should. I recently topped it off and it was about 1-2 in. short of topped off. Note: 02' V70, fluid is Pentosin 11s. My brother in law has the same issue on his 04' XC. I've replaced the reservoir which still seems to leak a bit but not a lot. I've never noticed fluid on the ground or dripping anywhere. Anyone else experience this?

Mine as always lost some fluid slowly. Like you I never noticed and oil on the ground, but could see the underside of the car getting dirty. Now within the last couple of week I can see a few drips, but looks more like engine oil than the very pale green 11s. However, I can't find a leak. It coming from up high on the front of the engine closest to the grill (North American car). I'm doing a timing belt change and so can see the cam and crank seals and they are dry. There looked like some oil at the dip stick tube to block interface, so I changed that o-ring out with no results. I had pulled the intake manifold to do an ETM change out, so was able to inspect the area pretty well. It is not leaking at the head gasket.

So all I have left is the Power steering pump. I have that part on order. Anyone with any ideas?

The hose coming out of the ps pump leading to the reservoir can develop small cracks on the underside especially if a timing belt job was recently done as this hose needs to be loosened and rotated and then gets manhandled a bit. Take a good hard look at this hose especially where it meets the pump to make sure it is totally dry.

You make an excellent point about the suction line from the reservoir. It does take a beating during the timing belt change. In the past I noted oil on this, but never real wet. More like a dirt collector. I've cleaned this several times but it always comes back. I believe a closer inspection is in order, or perhaps just get a new one if I can.

Take a good close look. That is what mine looked like too. It should remain dry over time.

Last night I ordered one of the after market ones as I've moved mine several times doing timing belt and serpentine belt changes. Less than $25 after shipping. However today I'll take a good look at what I have.

pierremcalpine, last night I removed the Volvo clamp to the suction hose at both ends and replace them with a worm gear clamp. No more leak at the reservoir, but it still leaked at the pump interface. Glad I have a new hose on order.

Glad to hear it. I hope that fixes your leak. Thank you for posting the update.
