Default Should I go from 2001 V70 to 2008+ V70?

We just sold our 2001 V70 w/170,000 miles on it. We enjoyed it and are thinking of buying a 2008 or 2009 V70. Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as relieability, ride quality, noise, gas mileage, etc. to help me decide whether we should do this or maybe switch to a BMW or MBenz wagon?

Greetings from Kentucky. I purchased a 2008 volvo last year with 30,000 miles. So far I've put about 7000 miles on the car. No problems or anomalies except one. The AM band on the radio stopped working shortly after the warranty expired. It's a somewhat common issue. Volvo did replace the AM radio module but only charged me labor($125). I consistently get 27 mpg on the highway. I live in a rural area and generally get 23 mpg driving locally. Hope this helps.
