some good performance parts for 2001 2.4t
Hi guys I just acquired my moms 2001 Volvo V70 2.4t and i plan to use it as a winter/back up race car. It needs some work to make it run properly (ECU and turbo because its blown). But once I fix the problems i want to add some power because its a little slugish. So what performance parts have you guys and gals added to your V70s?
is your car the low pressure turbo model? If so you will want to upgrade to a bigger turbo off the T5, and get the ECU reprogrammed. You may need to swap out for bigger injectors as well. Next would be to add a bigger downpipe (ie turbo to cat = 3") and perhaps a 3" exhaust to the end. Add a better airbox or KN filter will help too. After that it gets interesting - stuff like silicon tubes to deal with 18+ boost PSI, cams to add top end (not sure if the 2.4T has the same cams as the T5) but you are now into the area of diminishing return so I'd stick to a "stage 2" good for 275-300 hp with the T5's turbo, ECU, exhaust and intake updates - even there you are looking at $2K worth of parts. (750 for the exhaust, 750 for the ECU and 500 for the odds and ends). As to the other area to work, there's a few things you can do for the suspension etc. 1) consider upgrades to the motor mounts (I did a solid IPD top engine mount to start). 2) for the suspension, I have IPD heavy duty sway bars and matching HD end links (single best investment IMHO) 3) slotted disks 4) HR or similar springs. 5) camber adjusters if you lower the car). 6) struts - I did Bilsteins but went back to Boges. Boges are actually plenty firm for an OEM shock. 7) 17 inch wheels (make sure the offset is correct - V70s don't have a ton of fender room for really wide tires but you should be able to get 235/45-17s to work with a factory rim.
