Sun visor electrical connector
I've searched and haven't seen this topic in the forum. I need to replace the driver's side sun visor on my '08 V70. I got the visor from Volvo. There's a short red wire from the visor that goes into the headliner where, I assume, the connector lives. Is there enough slack in this wire that I can just pull it out 3-4 inches from under the headliner and plug in the new visor, or do I need to take down the front of the headliner to get to the plug on the red wire? I don't want to pull on the wire if it's going to break something up under the headliner. I'm installing a visor that just has the vanity light, not Homelink. Thanks.
Thanks Hoonk. I think you're right. From this diagram is doesn't appear that there's much slack in that wire but I'm going to give it a tug and see what happens. I can't imagine Volvo would design it so a simple, small power connection requires headliner surgery, but who knows? On YouTube the Legit Street Cars guy had to do a 50-hour procedure on a Mercedes to replace a $1 o-ring so I guess anything could happen.
I feel a bit silly posting such a minor problem as a new member, but anyway here's what I learned. The connector and wire are up in the headliner near the access hole that is exposed when you remove the visor. It's held in by some strong tape which is why it has no give if you pull on it. I removed the grab handle and pulled the front of the headliner down just enough to remove the tape on the wire. This enables you to pull the connector to the access hole, which gives you just enough slack to plug in the new visor. The whole thing took about 10 minutes. The diagram Hoonk posted was helpful.
