Yesterday I posted that my wife´s 2002 V70 Wagon´s transmission had a bump shifting from 1st to 2nd.

As we had been tout of town the car was sitting in the garage for 12 days until yesterday.

It did it, the bump, for the entire one hour we drove it yesterday, and again today fro the first 15 minutes.

When we leave the house we usually get into city traffic the first 10 minutes and the car was acting badly, but when we were able to get on the Palmetto ParkWay I hit 85-90 MPH for a few minutes and then desaccelerated quickly. On the way back, from Costco of all places I noticed the bump was not as hard and thinking it could go away if it warmed up I drove strictly on the streets, stop and go for 25 minutes and It was continually improving.

After we got home my wife took it to the Post Office and was again smooth or as rough, because the V70 is not the smoothest of cars as it has always been.

BTW this transmission is sealed,oil cannot be refilled, I assume it´s lubricated with graffite.

 

Well it most certainly is not filled with graphite. Unfortunately automatic transmissions are likely the most ignored major component with regard to preventative maintenance. Many auto makers though went to "sealed" transmissions because the proliferation of quick change places and their desire to add revenue by "flushing" transmissions was causing more harm than help by using chemicals, too much pressure, backward flow, and the wrong fluid thus causing premature transmission failure. The problem was that without proper fluid replacement that pretty much guaranteed transmission death prior to 150K miles. Of course this happened well after the warranty was up and well after the car company really wanted to sell a new car anyway.

Are you a DIY'er at all, or do you have to rely on a shop? It probably isn't really sealed, just has a plug where the dipstick is supposed to be and there is still most likely a drain plug. Also, how many miles?

 

It is not sealed, you can fill it through the dipstick tube and drain it with the drain plug

 

Car has 65 K miles. Where would dip be?
