Default Time for brakes

2001 V70

It's been a while since I needed to do brakes. Back in my sporty car day, I used Ferodo and changed them every year. Not doing track days means that brakes last a long time.

So now I want to do the brakes on my V70, at least the front pads and rotors.

Without getting absurdly expensive, what are the good brands and which are the good sources?

In terms of sources, I buy almost all my parts online from FCPEURO.COM, EUROPARTS.COM and when I want OEM, TASCAPARTS.COM. For rotors, I've had good luck with both Brembos and Zimmermans and stay away from budget brands. For pads, I've done Mintex, Akebonos and have actually reverted back to OEM Volvo on my 850...(the dust doesn't bother me on the old ride and the OEMs have a very nice feel).

When I tried going to europarts.com, I was sent to a site for europaparts.com and they don't sell volvo stuff.

Could it be eEuroparts.com?

What about ceramic brakes?

I went looking at ebay to see what is offered there for Volvo brakes and I saw some that look interesting at low prices.

Front Kit Drilled and Slotted Brake Rotors Ceramic Pads Volvo S60 S80 V70 XC70 | eBay

or

Front Rear Kit Black Slotted Drilled Rotors and Carbon Metallic Brake Pads | eBay

It's been well over a decade since I did any brake work except on my Roadmaster wagon and I didn't worry much about "performance."

Yes? No? Run away screaming?

Stick with more name brand products than what the two eBay links give.

I have bought from from both of these places.

The Volvo Parts, Accessories and Performance Specialists Since 1963

www.fcpeuro.com

I run either OEM Volvo from them or Brembo rotors and Akebono pads.

sorry about the typo, yes its eeuroparts.com. I've also shopped IPD but for specialty stuff not maintenance parts due to price. For a daily driver where you want to get maximum life, there's no advantage to slotted or cross drilled rotors. the idea behind the slots/drills are to vent hot gases coming off the pads during extreme/hot braking to help resist fade. Most cars won't experience brake fade unless you are doing a road test and decide to try a series of 80 to 0 stops... I'd pay more attention to managing dust and noise (ie do the pads have teflon backing or shims to avoid squealing (common to the 850s and early V70s, ceramics tend to give off less dust than organics). I know Bosch has come out with new pads designed to eliminate noise but yet to hear a review from a forum member.

Slotted rotors were the hot ticket back when I was young and did track days. Brake fade is fun.

Maybe someday I'll take the V70 to the track.
