Used Volvo Buying Guide?
Hi Folks:
Time to trade in the 1998 V70 for a newer V70. I'd like to keep it in the neighborhood of $10,000.
KBB.COM indicates I should be able to get something from around 2005 for that.
I've seen some nice looking V70Rs, for about $5K more. Does the added complexity, and the likelihood that they've been thrashed make them a poor choice for someone looking for reliable transportation?
I'm wondering there is a site that describes things to look for, and things to avoid, when shopping for a used Volvo.
Any drive trains to avoid? I'm just looking for reliable transportation.
I've been warned against AWD, I've been told the earlier viscus coupled AWD units had problems, particularly if tires aren't exactly the same size. I've been told that newer AWDs are electronicly coupled, and are reliable. Does that sound true? I probably don't need AWD here in wet but moderate Portland, Oregon.
Any years to avoid? When did the Chinese acquire Volvo, and does that have any impact on the vehicle quality?
Anything else I should know?
If you know of any particular vehicle, I'm not adverse to a road trip. Anything in Oregon and Washington area could be doable, but I'd want my mechanic to be able to look at the vehicle.
Thanks
Larry
