Default volvo 2008 v70 alt? or volt reg?

Got a 2008 v70 and I'm assuming alternator is out. Got a warning for cell not charging service urgent. Car is dead no charge will crank with cables. I have changed alternator s on several cars but not volvo's. I see that some threads hint towards voltage regulator and would be easier that digging through the mileage of volvo's strange placement of the alternator. Does anyone have experiance on this issue? Also has any one seen any youtube on 2008 volvo v70's?

Hi iguanah8 welcome to the Volvo Forums. I gave you a free lift over to the V70 board for some more views. Also, its helpful if you add a location to your profile. It could be one of a few things - battery, voltage regulator, or the alternator. Best way to start is to measure up voltages. First hook up the jumpers and allow the battery to pick up some of the charge (10 minutes should do). With the car off and jumpers disconnected, the battery voltage should be 12.6V or so. Next reconnect and start with a jump - when you disconnect does it die right away (you should see the voltage go from the 14V or so from the jump) or hold the the 12.6 volts? If not you are probably needing a battery. If the car runs after the jump, measure voltages again. Should be in the 14.1-14.5 range. There's a good sticky on the 850 board with a few more tests and details.
