Default Volvo V70 D5 2003

Help. The dash board lights and speedo/rev counter are only working intermittently - i have tried to trace a fuse for the dash/speedo etc but can't see that there is one. Should i assume a loose connection and book in to a garage to get repaired or is there something on the fuse front i am missing?

Hi Simon, welcome to Volvo Forums.

Fuses are NOT an intermittant item. You need to find a relay or switch that is going bad. It is also possible that you have some sort of short.

It may help someone help you if you include details about your car, like the model you have and the mileage. It is possible that a car with 120,000 miles have a bad ignition or light switch, but not likely that a 2010 car with 25,000 miles have that problem.

Help us Help you...

Default Volvo D5 V70

Thanks rpsi. It is a Volvo D5 V70 SE. 90,000 miles, auto. I have found a swift knock to the perspex on the speedo side of the dash brings temporary relief. As you say a fuse either works or it doesn't so i will have to book in to my local garage to get sorted....i think it will cost me!

Default Look around here and on brickboard for a circuit board repair

your comment that a knock on the dash seems to fix / affect the issue made me remember reading about a repair of an instrument cluster circuit board. I can't remember if I saw it around here or over on brickboard. It involved removing the circuit board and inserting a screw in one of the corners - actually that's not a very accurate description of the repair. But the author of the thread tells a pretty clear story and includes some pictures.
