Default 01 XC does not start

Hi I'm new to the forum.Have a 01 XC with about 99,000 miles that has been major disappointment.
I can go into that later. For now I'd like to get it running again.
On Saturday it would not start.Engine does ot crank at all. When I turn the key there is a rapid clicking sound and the instrument lights all flash on and off rapidly.
I tested the battery and voltage is fine. I tried jump starting and nothing happenedHave tried starting in both P and N.
Now at the same time this problem happened the message center displayed a message indicating ABS service required.
Any advice on most likely causes is appreciated. I'm wondering if it's two separate problems;maybe ABS module and the started but seems wired that 2 different thing with such different functions would go bad at same time.
thanks

could be a number of things causing this.
1. check for fuel pressure. make sure you get fuel at the rail.
2. if it is not cranking it could also be the starter
3.could also be a PNP switch.l dont know if your model has a PNP switch.try to put gear into neutral and try and start. if it does start then your PNP switch needs replacing.
4. if it was cranking but not starting, then your fuel pump relay is at fault.

my best guess will be the starter if you get fuel the right fuel pressure.

Well I learned that even though the voltage may test fine that does not equate to ample cranking power.

Man I don't feel so bad now. I was proceeding to replace my starter but got to a point where there was a bolt I could not loosen. Am now glad I couldn't!
Do know the sound difference now when it is starter vs something else.

I've been playing with cars since I was 15 and "CLICKING" has ALWAYS been the battery or dirty posts since 1975 LOL.

Default Fuel pump recall

Glad to hear you got it running! I was having some hesitation on accelerating and a hard start with my 02 XC70 AWD. Come to find out there was a recall in 08 on that fuel pump so you may contact Volvo or NHTS to find out if you're eligible for a new pump under the recall. Might as well have it checked even if the battery was the main problem. Got mine replaced yesterday at no charge from the dealership, and it's back to running like a champ!

mmmm.... I have hesitation and ive asked the dealer a few times about it thinking it was the throttle body! seems more prevalent right now that its cooled off here a bit and it makes sense it could be a fuel pressure issue. will have to text the service mgr about it today.
