Just what the title says, 04 XC70 Broken Strut Spring. I went to back the car out of the garage, heard a metallic snap and resistance moving the car. I got out to check it out and found a flat left front tire. After removing the tire I found a long slash on the inside sidewall then I saw the broken spring sticking out. Terrible thing to have happen to a new tire with leass than 2K on it!

I've never had this happen before or even heard of it happening, how about you?

This means a new tire and 2 new strut assemblies!

 

This happens all the time. Especially in the salt region and on really cold days.

 

Hi!2 years ago I found in the garage the same situation. Right side spring broken and made a big hole in the tyre. I went the junkyard choice (big mistake) and after 6 mts the other one broke on the road. I was lucky, it got stuck and didn't go out. Due to bad experience on Midas in Laval, CA, I decided to DIY on my 04 XC70. I discovered that due to wrong position of the spring, when turning, it touched something and paint went off the spring. Result, rust and got broken...After changing the springs try to turn right and left. If you get a rattle take into consideration that the spring might touch anything and check on it. Good luck!
PS: Last year I changed all my springs and it's all good. Next year I plan to change all the shocks. I got 133k KM.
