'07 XC70 Acceleration Gone
About 3 or 4 years ago, we bought a well-loved '07 XC70 at about 110k miles. It's always had issues here and there (tire pressure sensor went out, trunk lift gate won't stay open, stereo doesn't work, along with an irregular coolant/oil leak over the last year, etc.) but nothing too serious. Now it's pushing 185k- randomly on my drive home the other day, the car stopped accelerating as soon as I pulled into my neighborhood. Engine was running just fine but absolutely no power output. I imagine this is a transmission issue of some kind but I'd love some help in narrowing down what. There are no warning lights and nothing I can see immediately wrong. I tried in reverse, manual to 2nd/3rd gear, no luck. Is this just the end of the road, short of a $3000+ repair?
what else is going on to suspect a transmission issue? Do you hear any "motorboating" where the engine can rev without a corresponding speed change? If the engine is running and revs with no motion, the first thing I'd check is the drive axles to make sure they haven't popped out of the transmission (ie lost a retaining clip).
