2005 XC70 hesitating while driving
Hey guys-
At the end of my rope here. A couple of months ago while I was driving on the highway, my car (2005 XC70 with ~190k miles) hesitated and the gas pedal stopped working. I had to pull over and get towed. The first mechanic replaced the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator. I paid around 1,500$ for that. Since then, the car would start fine, drive great for a bit, and then hesitate or completely stop randomly. Some times it would hesitate for a few seconds, I'd take my foot off the gas, coast, and then it would work fine again. Other times I would need to turn off the car and restart it to get it going. But then it would drive fine again!!
Finally I took it to some Swedish mechanics here in LA who work specifically with old volvos. The car is with them now, and I'm sure the bill is getting higher and higher (they already replaced the air flow meter) but they say it's not changing and they are on the verge of giving up ("in our whole career we have never seen this issue before").
The problem is, since the car runs fine otherwise (and I love this car, have had it for 8 years), if there is some fix to this, I'd love to keep it and not sell it. But if no one can figure this out I guess I have to just sell it for parts?? No idea what to do at this point. There must be a fix. Otherwise why does it drive fine? So frustrating. Would appreciate any advice.
Thank you so much!!
