Hi All
HNY. We have a 2006 XC70. The key remotes stopped working several years ago. Now the lock in the driver's door has failed and I cannot use the key to lock/unlock the door either. Any options besides going to the dealer and paying a ton of money? Right now, we are left with leaving the car unlocked
Thank
Bob
I have also encountered this problem with my 2008 xc70 model . I eventually got to the bottom of the problem by trial and error . Have you checked what stored faults are in your CEM module ? Their should be numerous faults relating to the central locking . Have you checked if your red light on top of dash is flashing or not ? . If it’s not then the fault is within the wiring harness under your passenger footwell . The CEM module links to the rear fuse box . Unfortunately moisture , and wet has got into your CEM module and possibly damaged the wiring under the carpet . No amount of programming will rectify your remote central locking until you find the “ bad connection “ . Water leaks in from these models via the top of the windscreen and over time will find it’s way too the lowest point . Being the wiring on the passenger side to the CEM module . If your really unlucky then moisture has got into your CEM , I would personally remove the module and dry out as best you can , ( have a look at the wiring ) and if not yet fixed ( have the windscreen re-sealed) . Hope this helps . The second photo is the relays which operate all the locks , the connection between the CEM and REM module is broken . . Unfortunately due too you not being able to lock manually a drivers door lock is required . Good luck

Thanks so much and I feel bad as I should have closed this thread as SOLVED. First, the remote central locking in the car works. It is literally the remote unit in the key fob which failed years ago. The car is a 2006 which my son drives and for all I know he's gone swimming with the key in his pocket. I am just not up for paying the dealer $350 to resolve that on a 16 yr old car.
My issue with the key in the door turned out to be water in the lock cylinder. And when the temp drops below freezing here in Connecticut, it froze solid. Once I figured this out, I used a spray called Bell Victor Lock De-Icer ($3) and it worked like a charm. It is a combo of alcohol (to dissipate the water) and lubricant. The lock now works with the key again and is a smooth as ever.
What I think is most frustrating is that the driver's door is the only key hole on the entire car. So, I realized that if it fails you are screwed. There is no other keyed door and no emergency option
