2007 XC70 ABS light & clicking noise when turning right
Volvo fans,
- I have an irritating problem.
- Most concerning, at low speeds when making a sharp right I hear a clicking noise - not really loud but certainly a concern.
- I get the ABS warning light all the time - often when turning right (at any speed) - and sometimes just intermittently. The will clear itself sometimes when driving and others when you start back up.
- Thoughts/Ideas????

ABS warning lights can be caused by a wonky wheel speed sensor. The clicking noise is likely the front axle's CV joint. Best to inspect the CV joint boots and if torn and noisy, its time to replace that axle. Also if the boot tears and throws grease on the wheel hub, it can mess up the speed sensor so you may need to clean the hub's inner side and the sensor to fix the ABS error. Note that a shop with a fully featured scanner can read the ABS code and tell you exactly what part (ie which wheel) is setting off the warning.

I had an 07 V70 not long ago that had the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. The ABS, BRAKE TRACS and message board were going wild. The only thing that wasn't lit up was a heat shield warning on the return capsule.
Anyway, I had a code for the wheel speed sensor on the LH side. I checked the connection, removed the wheel and discovered that the bolt for the drive axle had come loose and the splined portion of the axle had moved inboard enough that the sensor no longer aligned with the tone ring. I tightened the bolt, removed and added some red Locktite and the problem was solved.
On ABS it is almost always the simple things.
