2008 XC70 tailgate error prevents locking car
Hello -
I have a 2008 XC 70 with a number of small problems. This post seeks to remedy the most pressing problem. The car seems to be experiencing numerous electrical errors that come and go. Right now I keep getting a warning message that the tailgate is open, sometimes the warning then goes away on its own. Even if the warning is not shown, occasionally when I try to lock the car, nothing happens (I guess because the car thinks the tailgate is open). The fob battery seems to be fine and I can here the sound when I push the button to unlock the already unlocked doors. Sometimes if I open and close the tailgate the problem will go away and then I can lock the car with the fob. Sometimes I have to hit the open tailgate panel with my hand, then the problem goes away and I can lock the car. Sometimes this process takes a long time. I think that water may possibly be getting into the tailgate area. The tailgate also sags when it's cold. And sometimes the taillights remain on when the car thinks the tailgate is open. As far as I can tell, the tailgate is physically latching fine, but the electronics think it is open. I am hoping there is a cheap way that I can fix this myself, or someway to just disconnect all of this electrical stuff - I can easily open and close the tailgate manually. Thanks so much!
