Automatic trans whining ( fluid ? )
I have a 2001 xc70 recently I have noticed a whining sound from the transmission in the morning. The sound speeds up as I drive faster. The sound disappears after a few miles and everything is warned up. I checked the fluid level but I'm unsure if it's accurate. There is no procedure in the owners manual. I warmed the car up parked on level ground, shifted through all the gears, put the car in park and left it running. When I first pulled the dip stick out there was just barely any fluid touching the stick. I wiped it off and stuck it back in and check again. This time there was fluid up to the hot mark. I did the same procedure three days straight with the same results. Initial check of the dip stick almost no fluid, but up to the hot mark after I put it back in to check again. Any ideas?
Thanks

What colour is the fluid. If it is dirty and smells burnt, get your tranny serviced. Mine had that whine, which has now disappeared after servicing the tranny. I still have the hard shifting issue when the tranny is hot, but I am getting valve body and solenoids on Monday which I hope resolves that issue
